About Counselling
No matter how big or how small a problem may be, it always helps to have someone to talk to. Counselling can offer you a relationship where you have someone to talk to who you can trust, who will not make judgements, and who will try to understand your feelings and experience. Sometimes it can be easier to talk to a stranger than to friends or relatives.
Counselling provides an opportunity to explore your world and to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way. It offers a way for you to help you make your own decisions without anyone telling you what to do, a chance for you to learn about yourself, which can, in turn, help you move on in your life.
Counselling is for all types of people, from all walks of life, regardless of age, sex, social class, ethnic group or disability.
Research shows that it is the quality of the relationship between client and counsellor that effects the most client change. I am therefore happy to talk to you before you decide if you would like to arrange an initial visit.
The initial consultation is provided free of charge to enable the client to have questions answered and expectations explored, allowing both client and counsellor to decide if they feel comfortable working together and to assess that the therapy being provided fits the needs of the client. This usually lasts for around twenty minutes. If you then decide that you would like to work with me you will be able to have your first session there and then if you choose to.
Sessions last for 50 minutes and are usually, although not always, on a weekly basis.
